Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I gather a list?
One way is to simply go through the phone book and look up names of Certified Public Accountants, Insurance Agents, Certified Financial Advisors or other "rain brokers". Another way is to send them to friends, family and acquaintances or just to people in your community. It's not a good idea to try to buy a list of consumers from from a company. It's not a bad idea to buy a list of referral sources though it is often unnecessary.
  • How do I keep my mailing list up-to-date and current?
You may send in your changes, additions and deletions by fax, mail or e-mail. We must receive these changes by the 10th of the month prior to mailing. The charge for this service is $.20 per change.
  • What do I need to have before I start mailing my newsletters?
There are a few things that must be completed before your newsletters can be printed and mailed. The first is that we must have your order form completed and returned to our office before the 10th of the month prior to mailing (i.e. For August newsletters we must have the order form by July 10th). The next thing needed is a mailing list, preferably in an Excel format. There is a minimum order of 250 newsletters you do not need that many people on your list, the remainder may be sent to directly to your office. If the attorney desires to have their photograph on the newsletter, the photo must be a black and white glossy photo. We have found that this type of photos scan in the highest quality giving your newsletter a more professional appearance. Finally we need a personalization message that is inserted onto the back of your newsletter. This personal message can be anything the attorney feels is important to his readers. A proper word count for this message is approximately 250 words or less. Personalized messages range anywhere from upcoming seminar dates and their topics, attorney credentials/personal history to a firms mission statement.
  • What are the two versions of the newsletter and how do they differ?
The two versions are the Classic style and the Premium style. The classic is the original version of the Pocket Watch newsletter with a word puzzle and a recipe in the newsletter. We have found that this is a very effective newsletter and recommend that our clients use it in their marketing program. This newsletter was designed to build relationships and give an approachable quality to the attorney. The Premium version has enhanced graphics and a self-test replacing the word puzzle and recipe in the Classic. We developed this version of the newsletter for attorneys who focus their marketing on referral sources and those of a professional nature.
  • Can I change my personal message and my picture?
Yes. Your personal message may be changed as frequently as you would like. There is a fee of $15 every time you change your message to cover graphic design costs. Your picture may be changed monthly as well. A fee of $25 is charged for scanning and altering maintenance.
  • Is there a minimum subscription duration?
No. Your subscription is set-up on a continuous basis unless or until it is cancelled. We require WRITTEN notice of cancellation 30 days in advance. (Certain discount promotions may require a longer-term commitment.) However, we strongly suggest you commit to the program for at least 12 months to ensure you get the full benefit of a monthly marketing program. As we stated before it takes 9-13 impressions to bring someone to a financial decision. We feel that our clients will benefit from the consistency of a monthly message especially if they allow it to continue for a full year.
  • What do I do with my "left over" newsletters?
Most of our clients order "extra" newsletters shipped directly to their office for their ongoing use. These newsletters often are put on display in the office, given to prospective clients, and used as hand-outs at seminars and workshops. We also have found that a "library" of back-issues will provide you with a targeted message to include with a welcome kit for prospective clients or referral sources. For instance, if you are planning to meet with an elderly widow, a copy of several back-issues dealing with planning for singles would make an appropriate addition to a welcoming mailer. By the same token, issues dealing with business planning would be more appropriate for a prospective client who owns a successful closely-held business.
  • I only want to mail quarterly, can I do that with Pocket Watch?
Yes. There is a slightly higher fee structure for our quarterly clients. That said, however, we strongly discourage anyone from using a quarterly mailing  program because in our experience we have found that it is simply not as effective as the monthly newsletter.  Research consistently indicates that you must make 9-13 impressions in order to bring someone to a financial decision. Market research also tells us that you often make 2-3 impressions before people are even aware of your message. Applying this knowledge to a quarterly mailing program, we see it would take 3 years to accomplish what a monthly mailing program can in 9 months. What we find is that most people will not stick with a quarterly mailing program, that doesn't show me assured results for nearly 3 years. If you would like to mail quarterly, please call our sales department (1-877-352-2021) for that price schedule.
