Integrity Marketing Solutions Teaches Lawyers Business Management Skills to
Thrive in Competitive Environment
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/
-- Lawyers are taking time away
from their legal schedules to learn more about sales, marketing and practice
management.
"Sales and marketing used to be dirty words in law
firms," says
Kyle Krull, Overland Park trusts and estates attorney and President of
Integrity Marketing Solutions, a practice development firm. "But in
today's
legal environment, lawyers -- especially solo practitioners and those in
smaller firms -- must implement effective business practices if we are to
compete with other professionals, including larger firms with the resources to
hire in-house expertise, accounting firms who are increasingly encroaching on
our service areas, and even financial advisors who sometimes view attorneys as
little more than document providers."
Integrity Marketing Solutions last year began offering
practice development
courses for trusts and estates attorneys. Their "Practice Development
Series"
is designed to help trusts and estates attorneys learn the essential business
skills
-- including sales, marketing and financial management -- necessary to manage a
successful
practice. Nearly 100 attorneys have attended the intensive two-day
workshops.
Their next course will be offered October 23 & 24 in Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina and November 9 & 10 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Attendance at
either session is limited to no more than 25 attorneys.
"We decided to offer two sections of the course this
fall so we could
limit the number of students and provide more hands-on, individualized
instruction," says Jennifer Campbell, vice president. "In this
new course
we're focusing on consultative sales techniques, targeted marketing and public
relations, managerial accounting, and time and contact management. These
are
all necessary business skills that, unfortunately, are not part of the
curriculum at most law schools. In fact, we find that most bar
associations
will not approve continuing legal education credits for anything related to
practice management. It's really a shame, and a tremendous oversight,
because
well-run, profitable firms are much better-positioned to provide outstanding
legal service to their clients -- and to do so in a manner that is
cost-effective for the client and ensures a long-term relationship."
